Tain service remained suspended for “security reasons” for the fourth day on Wednesday in the Kashmir valley following “Shopian Challo” called by resistance leaders to express solidarity with the families of those killed on Sunday.

13 militants and 04 civilians were killed in south Kashmir and over 150 others were injured in force’s actions on demonstrators on Sunday. Three soldiers were also killed and several others wounded in encounters on Sunday in south Kashmir.

“Train service will remain suspended for security reasons in the Kashmir valley on Wednesday,” a senior railway official told UNI this morning. He said all trains between Srinagar to Banihal in Jammu region passing through south Kashmir will remain suspended for security reasons. No train will therefore run on this route till further orders. Similarly, he said, trains will also not chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla track in north Kashmir for the third day today.

On Sunday, the trains were running normally on the north Kashmir route, when it was suspended in south Kashmir. “We are acting on the advice of police,” he said, adding the decision to suspend all train runs was taken in the interest of safety of passengers and railway property.” A fresh advisory was received last night from the police and administration that no train will run in the valley, he said.
